Diotrephes

A Church leader, and ambitious aspirant to leadership, who is rebuked by the Elder, the author of 3 John (verses 9–11), for disputing the writer's authority and snubbing his representatives. Diotrephes was a man of strong personality who persuaded a majority of the Church to support him. It would appear that he was a presbyter who was flouting the claim to apostolic authority of the Elder.
